New Nottinghamshire Assistant Chief Fire Officer appointed

The Nottinghamshire and City of Nottingham Fire Authority have approved a recommendation to appoint Damien West as Assistant Chief Fire Officer for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service.

The recommendation was made by the Combined Fire Authority’s Appointments Committee back in January.

Damien West, who is a serving Area Manager for NFRS, will officially take up the role on 16 April.

Area Manager Damien West started his career in the fire service as an on-call firefighter with Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue back in 2006. He later joined Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service as a whole-time firefighter in 2009, and Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service as a Station Manager in 2014.

Speaking upon his appointment, Area Manager Damien West said:

“I am absolutely delighted, proud and humbled to be appointed to this role by the Fire Authority and I would like to thank Members for this opportunity.

“It is a real privilege to serve the people of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire and to work in such a professional and dedicated service with people that give their all for our communities.

“When I started my career as an on-call firefighter, I could never have imagined having the incredible opportunities that the fire service has presented me with.  I am so grateful for all the support I have received, for my experiences across three Services, and for the trust that has been placed in me.

“I’d like to particularly thank everyone who has supported me at home and at work including my partner, children, family, friends, and colleagues.

“My focus as Assistant Chief Fire Officer will be on making sure that we continue to deliver the commitments of our Community Risk Management Plan effectively, and ensure that the Service continues its journey to become an outstanding fire and rescue service.”

Chief Fire Officer Craig Parkin says:

“This is fantastic news for our fire service and for the communities that we serve. Damien brings a wealth of experience to this position and his passion, determination, dedication and tenacity will be vital to helping us shape and improve our services.

“I look forward to working closely with him to achieve this for residents of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.”

Upon his appointment, Damien was congratulated by Chair of the Combined Fire Authority Cllr Michael Payne.
