A new indoor rock climbing centre is planned in Nottingham city centre.
The Climbing Hangar, a UK-based bouldering gym chain, plans to set up a new branch on Crocus Street.
The centre will replace the unit occupied by A.F.S Appliance Furniture Solutions, an electrical appliance goods store, planning documents say.
The centre will have a bouldering wall, a management office, reception, cafe serving hot food and drinks, and changing room facilities.
The planning document adds: “The climbing space will be the main focal point and will offer a range of climbing activities, primarily consisting of independent climbers, as well as classes for local schools, scout/cadet groups and charities in non-peak hours.”
According to the plans, the developer is looking to revamp the building, outdoor parking space and cycle parking.
Minor works will be conducted and fit out will have a sustainable approach with “energy efficient measures, water usage controls and improved facilities” to encourage walking and cycling to the site.
Lighting will be energy efficient and activated on sensors while hand dryers will have automatic shut offs.
The proposal will reduce the size of the mezzanine area, bringing total floorspace from 1636sqm to 1,519 sqm.
Once fully operational, the centre plans to hire 15 full-time and 15 part-time staff members, according to planning documents.
The site forms part of an allocation for future development within the Canal Quarter Regeneration Area in Nottingham.
Established in a Liverpool warehouse in 2011, The Climbing Hangar now operates nine locations across the UK.
Earlier in October, the Climbing Hangar secured £20 million from investors Verlinvest to fuel expansion plans.
Nottingham City Council will now consider the proposals.
