Starbucks plans new coffee shop at vacant Beeston bank unit.
Plans have been drawn up for a Starbucks at a vacant retail unit on Beeston High Road.
A planning application submitted for 49 High Road, Beeston, sets out proposals for changes to the ground-floor shopfront and internal layout of the building.
The document, dated 3 June 2026, says the site is currently vacant and sits at the end of a terrace divided into a number of separate retail units at ground-floor level. The upper part of the building includes existing sash window openings, which would be retained.
The proposals include replacing the existing shopfront with a new timber frontage incorporating a low-level stall riser. The statement says the new shopfront is intended to be more in keeping with the current street scene along the parade of shops.
The building has ground and first-floor accommodation, with a single main entrance from the street. Existing rear access would be retained for maintenance only, while a first-floor door would continue to provide access to a flat roof area at the rear of the building for maintenance of external air-conditioning condenser units.
The statement says the proposed entrance would include a single door designed to allow unimpeded access for wheelchair users. The entrance lobby would include a compliant entrance mat and a slightly inclined transition to provide smoother access between the entrance and the main tiled floor finish.
Inside, the proposed layout would include customer areas designed to make products easier to reach, with staff available to assist customers where needed. The document says flooring through the retail area and to the rear of the shop would provide a level surface, with anti-slip materials used in back-of-house areas.
The proposals also include a wheelchair-accessible toilet cubicle, alongside a separate unisex cubicle. Separate male and female toilet facilities would be retained at first-floor level.
:ighting would use low-energy fittings where possible, while contrasting colours and materials would be used for walls, ceilings, floors, doors, fittings, switches and sanitary facilities to improve visibility and accessibility.
The site is described as being well served by public transport, including Beeston station and several bus routes. It is located next to another retail unit, with a pedestrian footway leading to Villa Street along the left-hand side of the building.
The document does not state that the proposals have been approved. Any decision would be made through Broxtowe Borough Coouncil’s planning process.
