New Volvo showroom planned for Nottingham

Dozens of new jobs could be created in a new Volvo showroom and workshop close to Nottingham’s Experian headquarters.

Marshall Motor Holdings already operates a Volvo showroom out of a building in Valley Road, but the business has “outgrown the premises”, planning documents say.

Vacant land on the NG2 Business Park in Enterprise Way would be used for the new showroom and workshop if Nottingham City Council approves the plans. Between 30 and 40 jobs would be created.

Existing jobs at the Basford showroom, in Valley Road, would be transferred to the new site.

Planning documents, from SRA Architects, say: “The existing facility on Valley Road has accommodated a number of different automotive brands since its construction.

“Having been occupied by Volvo for a number of years, the business has outgrown the facility, with constrained space on site and limited facilities within the building.

“With the growth aspiration of the Volvo brand in Nottingham, Marshall consider the site unsuitable to support this growth; hence the proposed new facility.

“The existing building still has value as a motor retail facility and will be re-purposed to accommodate another brand that is better suited in scale and volume to the premises available.

“It is envisaged that the existing building will continue to employ a similar number of staff as currently does, albeit representing a different brand; hence the net gain in employment positions.”

Marshall’s plans reveal the showroom would have enough space for five vehicles on display, while the workshop would cater for roughly seven vehicles at a time.

An MOT bay and valeting area would also be created.

On the site, there would be a further 220 car parking spaces.

A Jaguar Land Rover dealership is located nearby, alongside a Mercedes showroom, and the site currently sits vacant as designated brownfield land.

Marshall adds: “It is considered that the principle of development is acceptable given the proposed use within the NG2 Business Park, similar uses within the surrounding area, and the compliance with the relevant local and national planning policies.

“It will provide an attractive building sympathetic to the surrounds and makes use of a brownfield site in a prominent location within the city.”
