Nottingham’s hair scene just got an upgrade with the launch of Scissor Sisters, a brand-new independent salon now open in the heart of Mapperley.
Founded by experienced stylists Charlotte Readyhoof and her sister Alex, the salon marks an exciting new chapter after years of working as self-employed hairdressers in a rent-a-chair set-up in Nottingham city centre.
Recognising the financial and creative limitations of chair rental, the duo made the leap to invest in their own premises.
“While we had a steady client base, the daily chair rental cost of £75 made it far more sustainable to establish a salon of our own,” said Charlotte. “This move allows us to create a space that truly reflects our vision and values. We’ve taken everything we’ve learned from previous salons – both the highs and the lows – to build something unique and personal.”
The new salon not only offers a creative home for Charlotte and Alex, but also serves as a future training ground for up-and-coming stylists. “We’re really passionate about mentoring and helping the next generation thrive in this industry,” said Charlotte. “It’s incredibly motivating to be building something that’s ours, and we’re already seeing how much more freedom and control this gives us – not just in our workdays, but in our careers.”
The property deal was handled by NG Chartered Surveyors, with Surveyor Alicia Lewis successfully completing the transaction. “Alicia was outstanding from start to finish,” Charlotte added. “This was our first time setting up a salon, and Alicia’s knowledge, professionalism, and warmth made the entire experience smooth and stress-free.”
