Police pulled over a van packed full of cannabis while investigating reports of a burglary.
Officers attended Westbury Road, Basford, after hearing an industrial unit was being broken into.
A van was spotted speeding away from the warehouse as police arrived at 11.50pm on Tuesday (2 January).
The vehicle didn’t get far though before it was brought to a stop at the junction between Nottingham Road and Valley Road.
At that point, officers carried out a search of the van, which resulted in around 80 freshly cut cannabis plants being found inside.
A small axe and tools were also found in the footwell of the vehicle.
After detaining the two people on board, officers returned to the site of the break-in – where they then made a further discovery.
The warehouse was found to have been converted into a cannabis farm, with around 400 uncropped plants growing across the premises.
All the drugs were seized by police, while the growing equipment was dismantled and put beyond use.
Two men, aged 20 and 25, were subsequently arrested on suspicion of possessing with intent to supply Class B drugs.
Both suspects were also arrested for burglary and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.
Detective Sergeant Nigel Malik, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Thanks to the rapid response of the officers who attended this call, we were able to seize hundreds of cannabis plants.
“We’re committed to doing whatever we can as a force to tackle drug activity in our communities, so we’re pleased to have arrested multiple suspects in connection with this incident.
“Cannabis production is in no way a victimless crime, with these grows often having some link to wider criminality and relying on the exploitation of the vulnerable.
“We clearly don’t want to see these kinds of illicit operations anywhere near our communities, so will always respond to any reports we receive of potential drug activity.
“Likewise, the force has a strong stance on burglary and anyone found to be involved in an incident of this nature should expect a robust response from us.”
