Nottingham architect uses ‘licence to thrill’ to aid housing charity

The founder of Acres Architects is offering generous thrill-seekers the chance to experience break-neck speeds alongside him after recently qualifying as a racing driver.

Edward Acres is hosting a ‘Racing for Homes’ track day at Donington Park circuit on Tuesday, September 7 to help launch his firm’s spirited charity drive in support of Framework Housing Association.

The first 50 people to donate £45 or more to the cause will be offered the opportunity to sit in the passenger seat of Edward’s GT56 Ginetta race car as he takes them for three exhilarating laps of the famous circuit.

The lucky winners will be given hospitality throughout the day, and every penny raised through donations to the firm’s JustGiving page will be donated to Framework.

Framework is a Nottingham-based housing association charity with ambitions to help rebuild shattered lives and end homelessness.

Edward, who became a qualified racing driver after completing his rookie season as part of Ginetta’s GT Academy, said: “As architects, we’ve designed some amazing – and often quite expensive – homes over the years. But not everyone is as fortunate as many of our clients.

“This is why we wanted to help those people whose lives are not on track. Our chosen charity, Framework, does some magnificently creative and truly inspirational work to give vulnerable and homeless people a brighter future, so we are proud to be championing the cause.”

Edward’s ‘need for speed’ began with karting at a young age before progressing to track days and latterly entering competitive racing last year – and buying his own Ginetta GT56.

“As a huge petrolhead, I’m extremely lucky that my love for architecture has helped pave the way for such an exciting hobby,” he said.

“Now, as a qualified racing driver, I want others to share some of the thrills I regularly experience. What better way to do that than through this hugely worthwhile charity campaign?”

Acres Architects was founded 12 years ago and moved to its office in Nottingham Business Park, opposite Nottingham University campus, in 2017. The rapidly expanding firm specialises in residential projects, from private homes to large student accommodation developments.
