Nottingham burglar locked up after stealing handbag from flat

A burglar who stole a handbag from a woman’s flat in Nottingham and then assaulted a man who tried to get it back has been jailed for two years and 11 months.

Bruce Oscroft, 33, of Holly Gardens, Thorneywood, was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday (8 March 2019) having pleaded guilty to burglary and common assault.

Oscroft and another man followed two people as they entered a flat complex in Nottingham on the night of 17 March 2018.

As the door of the victim’s flat was being closed Oscroft put his foot against it, reached into the hallway and grabbed the handbag.

When her friend tried to retrieve it Oscroft punched him in the face.

Officers arrived at the scene within minutes and Oscroft was arrested.

He was jailed for 35 months for burglary and three months concurrently for common assault.
