Body-worn police cameras secured key evidence as a man owned up to his role in a house burglary in Bilborough.
Jake Seaford, 24, of no fixed address, contacted the victim shortly after the burglary apologising for his actions which were recorded on cameras worn by officers present at her address.
It happened shortly after officers were called to Denewood Crescent at around 2.50 am on 6 December 2019 after a report of three men breaking into a property, threatening a woman with a crowbar and a knife and demanding money.
The men fled the property after stealing the keys to the woman’s Ford Fiesta.
Her car wasn’t stolen and she wasn’t hurt during the incident.
Later the same morning Seaford was spotted by officers while he was at the Queen’s Medical Centre and he was arrested in connection with the incident.
He went on to plead guilty to a charge of burglary and, on Wednesday (13 May 2020), he was jailed for four years and three months when he appeared at Nottingham Crown Court.
Detective Constable Mark Henshaw said: “The response officers who attended the scene did a great job to capture the conversation which greatly assisted the investigation.
“This was a terrifying ordeal for the victim to go through but thankfully she wasn’t injured. I hope that this sentencing and with Seaford no longer on our streets it brings her some comfort.
“We want to reassure the people of Nottinghamshire that we will continue to pursue those committing burglaries and remain committed to catching those responsible and bringing them to justice.”
