Nottingham bus operator CT4N has ceased trading with immediate effect, putting most of its 76 employees out of work.
The company is now taking steps to enter administration after its directors concluded that there was no viable alternative to closing the business.
CT4N said rising fuel, insurance, maintenance and employment costs, together with regulatory pressures, had placed significant strain on its finances and operations.
The closure comes despite creditors approving a Company Voluntary Arrangement in October 2025 and efforts by CT4N’s board and management to restructure the business.
Directors worked with professional advisers to examine the options available before deciding that the company could no longer continue trading.
The majority of CT4N’s 76 staff have been made redundant with immediate effect.
CT4N’s history can be traced back to the formation of Nottingham Community Transport in 1979. The operator provided services to communities across Nottingham and the wider region.
The company’s directors thanked employees, passengers, customers, suppliers and other stakeholders for their support over the years.
The East Midlands Combined County Authority has been informed of the closure and is considering arrangements intended to minimise disruption and maintain affected services where possible.
