Nottingham businesses urged to display new QR codes for NHS Test and Trace app

Hospitality and leisure businesses across Nottingham are being encouraged to download new QR codes for their venues in advance of the launch of the NHS Test and Trace app later this week.

On what Nottingham City Council is calling #DownloadWednesday, businesses are being asked to visit the Gov.UK website and download and print their unique QR code to display at the entrance to their venue for customers to scan in with.

From Thursday 24 September, it will be a legal requirement to display official NHS QR code posters at every entrance to certain premises, including hospitality, leisure and tourism venues, close contact services, places of worship and local authority venues and facilities.

The app will enable people to ‘check in’ when they visit a business or venue by scanning a QR code displayed on posters at the entrance. The app then informs visitors if they may have come into contact with someone who later tests positive for Coronavirus through an alert. The alert will not name the venue.

More information, including important information on how and where to display a code can be found on the NHS website, or via this video from the NHS Test and Trace service.

Councillor Sally Longford, Deputy Leader of Nottingham City Council , said: “Our businesses across the city have adapted very well to the seemingly ever shifting demands on them and we have no doubt they’ll adapt well to these changes too as they play their part in the national effort to track and restrict the spread of COVID-19.

“As the body responsible for both informing and enforcing the display of these QR codes, I want to reassure those businesses that our focus is on education before enforcement. We will work with them to ensure they have the right information to display and the facilities to do this. We all have a role to play in containing COVID and this is most effective when working in collaboration.”

Other Government regulations that have come into force to ensure businesses continue to be COVID compliant include businesses ensure visitors follow the Rule of Six and maintain social distancing. Failure to enforce the Rule of Six and social distancing could result in a fine of up to £4,000.

Pubs, restaurants and takeaways will be required to close at 10pm with table service only, and staff in retail and indoor hospitality will be required to wear masks.
