Nottingham eye clinic expands with appointment of new partner

Newmedica Nottingham not only treats cataracts but also provide NHS and private services for other eye conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, oculoplastic, vitreoretinal surgery, SLT laser and YAG laser.

More patients will benefit from a wider range of treatments at a sight-saving Nottingham eye clinic as it bolsters its team at Riverside Business Park.

This comes as consultant ophthalmologist Ms Lana A. Faraj joins the Newmedica Nottingham team as a partner, one year after the clinic opened its doors.

Ms Faraj is a University of Nottingham alumna, having completed an honours degree, a Masters, and a PhD before going on to teach medical students at the university. At present, she is the lead for the corneal service at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton and brings a wealth of surgical experience to Newmedica Nottingham.

She joins existing partners Mr Veerabahu Senthil Maharajan, Mr Aashish Mokashi, and Mr Richard Stead, alongside operational director Karan Morjaria, who have welcomed more than 10,000 patient interactions through the doors of the eye health clinic and surgical centre in the past year and carried out cataract surgery for more than 2,000 patients.

Ms Faraj’s appointment means that Newmedica Nottingham can increase its capacity to see even more patients in the coming year and utilise her experience to expand the range of services and treatment options available to locals in the Nottingham and Derby area.

A key goal of the clinic is to work in partnership with the NHS to help drive down waiting times for eye surgery, and it has bolstered its team from 13 to 23 colleagues in its first year in order to help achieve this.

Ms Faraj said: “I am excited to join the partnership team at Newmedica Nottingham and help drive forward plans for new treatment options. It is a fantastic time for the clinic as it looks to expand and help even more patients in the area.

“I cherish the ability to change people’s lives through improving their sight and look forward to helping Newmedica Nottingham’s patients. Delivering excellent patient care is at the heart of Newmedica and an ethos that is also very important to me.

“In the coming year, we also plan to offer our facilities and knowledge to help train new NHS surgeons, something I am very passionate about through my years of teaching students.

“I’ve had a very rewarding career so far and am looking forward to this new chapter.”

Newmedica is a joint venture partnership, meaning its clinics and surgical centres are owned and led by the consultant ophthalmologists, like Ms Faraj, who are looking after the patients in their area.
