Nottingham family’s warning after e-bike battery blaze damages home

A family in Bilborough is urging others to be cautious after a fire broke out in their home on Thursday 14 August.

They had purchased a second-hand electric bike via Facebook Marketplace, which was left on charge overnight in their kitchen using the incorrect charger.

The battery caught fire while charging, causing serious damage.

As we approach the bank holiday, please remember these important safety tips for lithium-ion batteries:

Always use the correct charger supplied by the manufacturer.

Never leave devices charging unattended or overnight.

Avoid storing multiple batteries together – if one fails, others nearby could ignite.

Do not overcharge – unplug once fully charged.
