Nottingham Hospitals a finalist in prestigious menopause awards

NUH NHS Trust is a finalist in the Most Menopause Friendly Environment category in a new national awards scheme.

The inaugural Menopause Friendly Employer Awards – powered by HSBC UK, first direct and M&S Bank – drew more than 85 entries across 10 categories. Winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on Thursday 22 September, with almost 200 guests; the ceremony will also be live streamed across the UK.

NUH has been recognised for having the best-designed facilities for supporting menopause, including designated assistance frameworks for managing the effects of menopause in the workplace.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be shortlisted for this award,” said Jenny Good, NUH Staff Wellbeing Lead. “We have worked really hard over the last three years to create a menopause-friendly environment for our staff – including support groups, training, a comprehensive policy and lots more.”

NUH was the first NHS Trust to be awarded the Menopause Friendly Employer Accreditation in November 2021, becoming a trailblazer for other Trusts to follow suit; its policy is viewed as the gold standard. It had set up a Menopause Working Group in 2019, running awareness sessions and creating a lightweight uniform.

“We know we have decreased the taboo around menopause but are also aware there is still lots of work to do and we are committed to ensuring this happens,” added Jenny.

“The standard of work and level of activity demonstrated by entrants to the first-ever Menopause Friendly Employer Awards has been really high. NUH has done extremely well to be shortlisted in such a strong field,” said Deborah Garlick, CEO of Henpicked: Menopause in The Workplace.
