A Nottingham city centre hotel has completed a £2 million refurbishment and joined the Marriott International portfolio under a new name.
St James’ Hotel, on Rutland Street near Nottingham Castle, has become Four Points Flex by Sheraton Nottingham.
The 90-bedroom hotel has been owned and operated by the Johal family since 2013 and remains part of the family’s business portfolio. It was previously known as The Rutland Square Hotel before becoming St James’ Hotel.
The change makes it Nottingham’s only Marriott-branded hotel and the sixth Four Points Flex by Sheraton property in the UK.
More than £2 million has been spent refurbishing the hotel’s guest rooms and public areas. The work has included changes to the lobby and restaurant and the creation of an open-plan co-working area.

General manager Julian Saunders said: “Over recent months, we have invested more than £2 million into the property, transforming our guest rooms and public spaces to ensure the hotel is well positioned for the future.
“This investment reflects our confidence in Nottingham and our commitment to providing visitors with a high-quality stay in one of the city’s best locations.”
The hotel will also participate in Marriott Bonvoy, Marriott International’s customer loyalty programme.
Molly Turpie, senior manager for international hotel development at Marriott International, said the company had worked with the Johal family to bring the brand to the Nottingham hotel.
