Local leaders and community organisations are coming together to discuss a joint approach to tackling knife crime, following a number of recent incidents in the city.
Nottingham City Council’s Councillor Corall Jenkins, Executive Member for Communities, Waste, and Equalities; Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner Gary Godden; Nottinghamshire Police Chief Constable Kate Meynell; and a range of local partners met on Thursday to strengthen collaborative efforts to address the issue.
Knife crime is falling in Nottingham, and local partners want to reassure the public that they are working tirelessly to make continued improvements to public safety.
In a joint statement, Cllr Corall Jenkins, the Chief Constable, and the Police and Crime Commissioner said:
“We understand how concerned people are about knife crime here in Nottingham and right across the UK. We will always put the victims of knife crime and our communities first in everything we do as partner agencies.
“We hope the public will be reassured by the significant number of arrests that have been made over the past few days in response to the recent incidents we have seen, as well as the high-visibility patrols that have been put in place.
“Sadly, knife crime is a problem for society as a whole, and the only way to combat the issue is to take a multi-agency approach. No single agency can tackle this issue alone, but by working together on a long-term approach and sharing information, we can address the root causes.
“We are coming together as partner agencies with local community organisations for a roundtable event to discuss our joint efforts to continue reducing knife crime and serious violence.”
