Nottingham man charged with robbery after ‘tug of war’ with victim over shopping bag

A man has appeared in court charged in connection with an alleged attempted robbery during which the victim was forced into a tug of war for his shopping bag.

Officers were called to the incident in Mansfield Road, Sherwood, shortly after 8am on Saturday 29 May 2021.

A man was allegedly attacked outside a garage as he was walking past with his bag of shop.

Police quickly arrived and arrested a suspect within minutes of the incident being reported.

A 33-year-old man from Nottingham appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Monday (31 May 2021) charged with attempted robbery and criminal damage.

He was remanded in custody is next due to appear at Crown Court on 28 June 2021.

Investigator Georgia Morgan, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We are committed to protecting the public and will vigorously investigate reports such as this. Nottinghamshire Police takes these types of offences very seriously and will always strive to put suspects before the courts.”
