Nottingham man jailed for 12 years for sexual abuse of children

A man has been jailed for 12 years today (Friday 5 April 2019) following a five-day trial at Nottingham Crown Court with the jury finding him guilty of all charges.

Mark Bate, of Gayrigg Court, Chilwell, sexually abused two children and a woman.

He was convicted of five offences; two counts of assault of a child by penetration,two counts of sexual assault of a child and sexual assault.

The 48-year-old will be placed on the sex offenders’ register and restricted from working with children in the future.

DC Natalie Stokes said: “I must thank all the victims in this case. They have all shown tremendous courage.

“The fact that he refused to accept his crimes and insisted on putting the victim through a trial is another example of his abusive nature.”

DC Laura Clapham added: “Bate preyed on vulnerable children and I’m glad he has been given a considerable prison sentence. I hope today’s result goes some small way to helping them get closure.”
