A 42-year-old Nottingham man has been jailed for 13 years for sexually abusing a child.
Leon Hunt, of Sandringham Road, Nottingham, abused the child over a two-year period. He denied all charges but on Wednesday 20 March a jury at Nottingham Crown Court found him guilty of four counts of rape and two counts of assault by penetration.
Hunt will be placed on the sex offenders register and restricted from working with children in the future. He is also forbidden from ever contacting his victim.
DC Helen Sanders, the investigating officer, said: “I’m pleased that the court have recognised the severity of Hunt’s crimes. He abused a child for a prolonged period of time and it is only right that he spends a considerable number of years behind bars. Even up to the jury delivering their verdict, he refused to take responsibility for what he had done.
“I would like to thank the victim in this case, who has persevered throughout and gave evidence in court. This all took tremendous courage and I hope today’s result will go some way towards helping them gain closure.”
