Road users in Nottingham are being advised to allow plenty of time for their journeys as safety work to repair a damaged bridge on the A52 at the QMC roundabout starts on Monday, 8 July.
The northern bridge on Derby Road at the junction with the A52 and the A6154 Middleton Boulevard was struck by a lorry carrying an excavator on the eastbound carriageway in 2018, damaging the edge beam.
Now National Highways will be replacing the beam and re-waterproofing the bridge in a scheme due to last until summer 2025.

The first three weeks will involve the diversion of a gas main running through the bridge by Cadent five nights a week followed by the diversion of electric cables by National Grid.
Then, once National Highways takes over on Monday, 29 July, work will be carried out overnight, 8pm to 6am on Mondays to Fridays and will see a number of lane closures on the roundabout. Lane one will be closed 24/7 for the safety of the public, while other lanes will close when works are taking place at night.
The A52 on the approach to the roundabout from the Priory Island will also have lane closures in place, and to protect the travelling public the A6514 Middleton Boulevard underneath the bridge will be closed at night with traffic diverted up and over the roundabout using the exit and entry slip roads.
Emergency vehicles will be escorted through the works area to Queen’s Medical Centre
The work will occasionally be put on hold to avoid major events in the city such as sporting fixtures, concerts and university open days.
