Nottingham MP joins police officers in weapons sweep

Neighbourhood officers have teamed up with Alex Norris MP for a knife sweep in Top Valley.

The team was out on Saturday (14 November) with metal detectors searching Southglade Park and a nearby car park for any knives which may have been hidden.

No weapons were found but the officers took the opportunity to speak to local residents and glean vital information about hotspots for antisocial behaviour.

The search was part of Operation Sceptre, a national week of action on knife crime which saw a host of activity including targeted patrols and virtual education sessions for school pupils on the dangers of carrying a knife.

The team was also joined by Celia Knight, Neighbourhood Development Officer for Nottingham City Council.

Sergeant Oliver Vale, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “It’s great to see our partners so keen to work with the police to ensure that Top Valley is a safe and pleasant place to live.

“We’ll be using the information we got from the public to feed into our planning so that we can continue to work together to address issues in the area.”

Mr Norris, who is MP for Nottingham North, said: “I was glad to join the police’s weapons sweep at the weekend. Our police are working so hard to protect us and I wanted to show my support. Thanks to activities like this they are taking weapons off the street, which is a major priority locally.”
