Thanks to generous donations from the local community, four sleep pods have been installed for NHS staff at Nottingham’s hospitals.

These comfortable sleep spaces, which contain fully reclining chairs in a contained capsule, allow staff to get some rest during their breaks, or before or after busy shifts. The pods were funded thanks to generous donations to Nottingham Hospitals Charity’s ‘Help your Hospital Heroes’ appeal and have now been installed at the City Hospital and Queen’s Medical Centre.

As well as funding the four sleep pods, money raised through the appeal has been used to help create two wellbeing centres and other rest areas. The Charity is continuing to work closely with NUH Trust to ensure funds donated by the local community are used where they are most needed, for items and areas that will be most valued by staff.

Alison Wynne, Director of Strategy and Transformation at NUH, said “We are delighted, in partnership with our Charity, to be able to install some sleep pods on both sites at NUH for our staff. The pods are one way we can support our teams, helping them stay rested and able to provide excellent care to our patients.”

Barbara Cathcart, Chief Executive of Nottingham Hospitals Charity, said: “Thanks to the generosity of the local community, we are pleased to be able to fund these high-tech sleep spaces, which are specifically designed for our NHS staff to take a sleeping break as needed, especially during these challenging times. We are convinced that these sleep pods will help staff to feel refreshed when time is of the essence for them, and for their patients.

“We’d like to say thank you once again for the phenomenal amount of support our appeal has received from individuals, families and businesses across Nottingham, who want to help our NHS people during this difficult time.”
