To mark the opening of the new baby suite at its Bilborough nursery, Children 1st Day Nurseries were delighted to make a cheque presentation to leading national charity Children with Cancer UK and to invite its regional fundraiser to visit the nursery.

The baby suite was opened by the nursery group’s founder Margaret Mason OBE and Ashleigh McCluskey, Midlands and Wales Regional Fundraiser from Children with Cancer UK.

Mrs Mason presented Ashleigh with a cheque for £2,000 money raised by Children 1st nurseries at their Summer Fairs and other fundraising events held this year.

Ashleigh McCluskey comments: “Our charity thrives on donations such as this, from hardworking people who give up their time to fundraise for us.

“I would like to thank the staff, parents and carers at Children 1st Day Nurseries for their efforts this year. This money will make an immediate positive impact to all the children who benefit from the support of Children with Cancer UK.”

Since 1988, Children with Cancer UK has raised more than £230 million, funding over 200 vital research projects into causes and treatment.

During this time, childhood cancer survival rates have risen from 64% to 84%, and from 60% to 90% for childhood leukaemia.

Both Children 1st Day Nurseries and Children with Cancer UK are celebrating their 30th anniversaries over the next 12 months and the nursery group has further fundraising activities planned to take place in 2019 as part of its pledge to support 30 charities during its 30th year.

Children 1st at Bilborough, located at the Jubilee Lead Academy on Beechdale Road, was opened in September 2018 following a significant investment by the company. The nursery has been fully re-furbished inside and out providing the perfect early years’ environment for children in Bilborough.

The new baby suite is open to babies from 6 weeks old. On her grand tour of the baby suite, Ashleigh McCluskey was impressed with the relaxing and tranquil environment devoted to babies which is separate from the rest of the nursery and features a sensory area and light tunnel to stimulate young minds.

The little ones even have the benefit of their own beautifully equipped garden to explore.

Margaret Mason OBE comments: “I am delighted with the transformation at the nursery and look forward to it becoming a real asset to the local community.

“Since I started Children 1st 30 years ago, I have taken great pride in bringing young children the best learning opportunities possible, both through the quality of the nursery environment and the expertise of our staff. I am sure the nursery will benefit families in the local area and give children the best start in life.”

“I am pleased that Ashleigh was able to join us today for the opening of the baby suite and would like to thank everyone at Children 1st for their fundraising efforts.”

Children 1st @ Bilborough provides complete childcare and education for children aged from 6 weeks to 5 years. Funded places for eligible 2, 3 and 4 year olds are available.

The nursery is hosting a Christmas themed Open Afternoon from 2pm – 4pm on Monday 3rd December 2018 for parents interested in enrolling their little one in the nursery.
