Sick and injured animals will benefit after generous officers and staff raised nearly £7,000 to support a veterinary charity.
Over the course of the last year, generous officers and staff have raised a total of £6,867 for the Nottingham PDSA Pet Hospital – the Chief’s Charity for last year.
The charity – nominated in a staff poll – provides treatment and care for animals in need, as well as low-cost or free treatment for animals whose owners are going through social or economic hardship.
It also offers routine and preventative care such as neutering, microchipping, vaccinations, and repeat prescriptions for ongoing conditions.
This year’s bumper fundraising total was made possible by an array of different events – from cake sales and dress down days to bike rides and raffles.
Speaking after presenting a cheque to charity representatives on 30 June, Chief Constable Kate Meynell said: “I would like to thank everyone who supported our fundraising initiatives over the last year.
“Many of us in the policing family have our own animals at home and well understand how hard it must be for people who find themselves unable to provide their pets the treatments and care they need.
“As demand for this charity’s services increases, I am pleased we have been able to do our bit to support their much-needed work.”
Nottingham PDSA Pet Hospital’s Head Nurse Rebekah Blasdale said: “We’re incredibly grateful to Chief Constable Meynell and the whole of Nottinghamshire Police for choosing to support PDSA as their Charity of the Year.
“The team’s generous fundraising efforts will enable us to continue our life-saving work, treating pets in Nottingham whose owners have nowhere else to turn.
“It is thanks to the incredible generosity of kind-hearted supporters, like the Nottinghamshire Police force, that we are able to provide vital treatment for poorly animals and make a real difference to their owners.”
