Nottingham Rugby is delighted to welcome Andrew Kyriacou to Neil Fowkes’ coaching staff.
Joining as Defence and Forwards Coach, ‘Kyri’ brings a wealth of experience having coached at Cardiff Blues, Sale Sharks, the Russian national team and, most recently, Caldy.
Starting his professional playing career at Sale Sharks, he played top flight rugby for a number of years, most notably at Saracens and Ulster.
His career was unfortunately cut short due to injury, he then joined the coaching staff at Cardiff Blues as the Scrummage and Skills Coach.
Kyri said: “I’ve always heard fantastic things about Nottingham Rugby from people like Matt Parr and when I sat down with Neil Fowkes and Steve Smith, who told me the vision of the club, it was a no-brainer to join.
“The club possesses a rich history and has an exciting blend of mature and younger players, giving us strong foundations as we build for the long term.”
Priding himself on creating strong a defensive mind set, Andrew can’t wait to get to work with the Green and Whites, he said: “I’m an immensely positive coach and try to create an atmosphere that echoes that positivity.
“I give the players a lot of accountability, making sure that they are tough both mentally and physically for the demands of the Championship.
“Ultimately, I want any side I am a part of to be the best defensive unit in the league and I have achieved this at my previous clubs by creating a strong identity that shapes our defensive play.”
Kyri most recent success as Defence and Forwards Coach at Caldy is an example of his fine work, achieving promotion to the National League and sustaining that success for the following season, keeping them up with some strong performances.
Head Coach Neil Fowkes is delighted to welcome Kyri to his team, he said: “When I sat down with Kyri, it was clear we share a common vision on how the defence and set piece should be coached and therefore appointing Kyri was an easy decision to make.”
“Kyri is passionate about the game and coaching and his experience coaching at the top level will help get the most out of our group.”
“I am looking forward to getting to work with Kyri and building on the foundations we have.”
