A joint operation between Nottingham City Council’s Trading Standards team and Nottinghamshire Police has resulted in the closure of a shop on Mansfield Road, Nottingham, following the discovery of illegal goods being sold from the premises.
Victoria Mix has been issued with a Closure Order under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, meaning the premises will be closed for a period of three months and must cease all trading during this time.
The investigation began in September 2024 when officers carried out a joint inspection and seized:
- 79 illegal tobacco products
- 739 illegal disposable vapes
- 29 large canisters of nitrous oxide (a Class C drug)
Further enquiries confirmed that the premises had been regularly supplying nitrous oxide, as well as illicit tobacco and vaping products.
A 48-hour temporary closure notice was issued by police on Tuesday 22 July, followed by a successful court application for a full three-month Closure Order Thursday 24 July.
Councillor Corall Jenkins, Executive Member for Neighbourhoods, Waste and Equalities said: “Retailers have a legal duty to comply with the law, and Trading Standards will respond to any reports of illegal sales. Any reports we receive will be followed up with investigations and enforcement where necessary to ensure compliance.
“This result sends a clear message that we will not tolerate the sale of illegal and harmful products in our city. Thank you to our hard-working Trading Standards team and Nottinghamshire Police for their continued efforts to protect our communities from this kind of criminal activity.
“We encourage anyone with information about the sale of illegal products to report it to the Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 0808 223 1133 or via the website: www.citizensadvice.org.uk/consumer/get-more-help/report-to-trading-standards”
