Nottingham traffic and travel updates: Thursday 15 October

Emergency gas works on London Road are causing delays to Nottingham bus services, while Maid Marian Way remains subject to severe congestion warnings because of the Broad Marsh demolition works.

There is better news in West Bridgford, where Gordon Road has reopened earlier than scheduled following gas-main replacement works. Trentbarton confirmed on Wednesday 14 October that the work had been completed.

New overnight closures begin tonight on Stapleford Road in Trowell, while resurfacing restrictions continue on Western Boulevard.

Rail passengers face a final night of replacement buses between Mansfield Woodhouse and Worksop, while East Midlands Railway’s reduced Intercity timetable continues. Nottingham City Transport

Roads and motorways

M1, A1, A46 and A52

No major new collision or emergency closure affecting Nottinghamshire’s strategic road network has been confirmed in the available early reports.

The main verified issues this morning are continuing planned roadworks and emergency utility works in Nottingham.

Drivers can check National Highways live traffic information and Nottingham Travelwise for developing incidents.

London Road – emergency gas works

Emergency gas works on London Road in Nottingham are causing congestion affecting buses travelling through the eastern side of the city centre.

Nottingham City Transport says traffic is queuing along Lower Parliament Street near the Motorpoint Arena because of the works.

The operator has issued a disruption warning affecting Lilac and Red Line services.

The routes listed are:

  • Lilac 25, 25B, 26 and 27.
  • Red 43, 44, 44A, 45 and 45B.

The warning was introduced on Wednesday 14 October and remains on NCT’s current service updates page this morning.

Passengers travelling between Nottingham city centre, Carlton, Gedling, Mapperley and other areas served by these routes should allow additional time.

NCT has not published an expected completion date for the emergency works in the notice currently available. Nottingham City Transport

NCT current service updates

Maid Marian Way – severe congestion warning continues

The demolition of the former Broad Marsh NCP car park remains a major source of disruption in Nottingham city centre.

Traffic continues to operate through the temporary contraflow on Maid Marian Way, with restricted capacity and temporary traffic signals.

NCT is maintaining its warning that the works have caused severe congestion across the city centre and surrounding roads.

The operator says services are experiencing severe delays and short-notice cancellations.

This is an ongoing network-wide warning, rather than confirmation that every service is delayed at 06:10.

Orange and Turquoise bus diversions

The temporary city-centre stopping arrangements remain in operation.

Orange 34/C services enter Nottingham from Canning Circus along Talbot Street, continuing to Nottingham Trent University City Campus before terminating on Milton Street alongside Victoria Centre.

Outbound journeys towards University Park depart from the Orange 35 and 36 stops on Milton Street.

Turquoise 77/C, 78/A/B and 79/B services enter the city via Talbot Street, Shakespeare Street and North Church Street before terminating on Burton Street alongside The Cornerhouse.

Outbound journeys towards Strelley and Bulwell depart from Burton Street stop T7.

These temporary routes avoid Maid Marian Way, Broad Marsh and several other central stops.

NCT says the arrangements will remain until the demolition works are complete.

West Bridgford – Gordon Road reopens early

There is a significant improvement for motorists and bus passengers in West Bridgford.

Gordon Road has reopened following completion of the gas-main replacement works.

trentbarton updated its travel information on Wednesday 14 October to confirm that the works had been completed and the road was open.

The closure had originally been scheduled to continue until Friday 16 October.

It affected trentbarton’s mainline, the cotgrave and rushcliffe villager, together with NCT Green services travelling towards Nottingham.

The road reopening means the closure should no longer be carried forward as a current restriction.

NCT’s current service updates page also no longer lists the Gordon Road diversion.

This removes one of the main traffic restrictions affecting central West Bridgford over the past ten days. Trentbarton

Tollerton – Melton Road traffic lights continue

Temporary two-way traffic lights remain scheduled on Melton Road in Tollerton, near the A52 junction.

The restrictions continue until Friday 16 October.

Trentbarton says the lights are being removed overnight and reinstated each day.

Delays remain possible for the keyworth service.

The works are particularly relevant to motorists travelling between Tollerton, Keyworth, Ruddington and the A52.

Western Boulevard – overnight resurfacing continues

Overnight closures continue on Western Boulevard towards Queen’s Medical Centre and Clifton.

The current NCT notice covers restrictions from Wednesday 14 to Friday 23 October inclusive.

Grey 53 services are affected.

The weekday departures from Arnold at 05:10 and 19:05 divert via Nuthall Road and Aspley Lane before returning to Western Boulevard.

The diversion means the Newlyn Drive and Western Boulevard/Bluecoat School stops towards Clifton cannot be served by those journeys.

The works are part of Nottingham City Council’s resurfacing programme.

Trowell – new overnight road closure tonight

A new programme of overnight closures begins today on Stapleford Road in Trowell.

Trentbarton says the road will close on:

  • Thursday 15 October.
  • Friday 16 October.
  • Monday 19 October.
  • Tuesday 20 October.

The restrictions operate between 20:00 and 06:00.

The closures affect trentbarton’s my15 service.

During the restrictions, buses cannot serve Trowell Road, Trowell Grove, Warehouse or Derbyshire Avenue stops in either direction.

Passengers travelling between Ilkeston, Trowell and Long Eaton should check their journeys before travelling tonight.

Long Eaton – overnight closures continue

Overnight restrictions remain in operation on Tamworth Road around Harrington Bridge and Old Sawley.

The closures operate between 22:00 and 06:00 on working nights until Friday 23 October.

Trentbarton’s skylink Nottingham and selected my15 services are affected.

Skylink Nottingham diverts via Draycott Road, the M1 and A50.

Stops including Draycott Road, Sawley Square and Sawley Marina cannot be served during the relevant diversion.

The separate overnight Long Eaton Market Place closure was scheduled to finish on Wednesday 14 October and should not be carried forward as continuing today without a new notice.

Nuthall Road – resurfacing programme reaches scheduled end

The current phase of resurfacing works on Nuthall Road was scheduled to finish at 06:00 this morning.

The programme has involved weekday overnight closures between 19:00 and 06:00 since 28 September.

Yellow 71/B and Turquoise 79/B have been subject to diversions.

NCT’s notice remains listed through today, Thursday 15 October, but specifies Wednesday 14 October as the final night of the current closure programme.

The overnight diversions should therefore not be assumed to continue tonight without a further operator announcement.

Other continuing roadworks and bus disruption

Several longer-running restrictions remain relevant across Nottinghamshire.

Lowdham Roundabout: Construction continues as part of the A614/A6097 improvement programme. NCT warns that the works may cause delays to Pathfinder 26. The overall scheme is expected to last around 13 months.

Derby Road: Roadworks continue to affect NCT 18, Orange 34/C, 35/A/B, 36 and University hopper 903. The Triumph Road stop towards Nottingham remains closed.

Ilkeston Road: Works at the Triumph Road junction continue to affect Pink 28 and 30, with the Triumph Road stop towards Nottingham unavailable.

Bathley Street: Green 11/C towards Lady Bay remains diverted because of works at the Arkwright Street junction. The diversion is scheduled to continue until the end of service on Friday 16 October.

Ryehill Street: The stop towards Trent Bridge remains closed for Navy, Green and Pathfinder 90 services. Passengers are directed to Victoria Embankment.

City Hospital: Blue 40A continues to terminate at the Radiotherapy stop because Linden Way remains closed.

Pinxton: Kirkby Lane remains closed for water-main installation until Sunday 6 December, affecting trentbarton’s 9.3 and 90 services.

Loughborough: South Notts 1 continues to experience delays because of roadworks, which NCT says can be severe at peak times. Nottingham City Transport

Tonight, Thursday 15 October, is the final scheduled night of the current programme.

The 21:25 Nottingham to Worksop service will terminate at Mansfield Woodhouse.

A replacement bus will continue to Worksop.

The 22:39 Worksop to Nottingham service will instead start from Mansfield Woodhouse at 23:10.

Nottingham to Liverpool – early train departed earlier

The normal 05:21 Nottingham to Liverpool Lime Street service was scheduled to depart at 05:08 this morning.

National Rail says the alteration applies from Tuesday 13 to Friday 16 October because of engineering work.

The train was therefore scheduled to leave Nottingham 13 minutes earlier than usual.

Nottingham to London – reduced timetable continues

East Midlands Railway’s temporary reduced Intercity timetable remains in operation.

The changes affect services between Nottingham, Derby, Sheffield and London St Pancras.

National Rail says the reduced timetable remains in place until further notice.

The operator plans to increase its Intercity service from 92% to 96% of the full planned timetable from Monday 19 October.

For Nottingham, reinstated weekday services will include the 13:50 and 18:10 departures to London St Pancras.

Several London-to-Nottingham services will also return, including departures at 11:35, 16:05 and 20:35.

Passengers travelling today should continue to check individual departures because the reduced timetable remains in operation.

Late-night London services

Further engineering alterations affect EMR services between London St Pancras, Nottingham, Derby and Sheffield tonight.

The 21:35 London St Pancras to Nottingham service is scheduled to depart East Midlands Parkway at 23:15, running up to 23 minutes later through to Nottingham.

The 22:35 London St Pancras to Nottingham is also amended, departing Leicester at 23:55 and running up to 17 minutes later.

The changes are associated with overnight engineering work between Luton and Bedford and between Loughborough and East Midlands Parkway.

Looking ahead – weekend rail works

Significant engineering work is scheduled on the East Coast Main Line on Sunday 18 October.

The programme includes rail renewal around Newark, drainage work near Grantham, brickwork repairs at Stoke Tunnel and electrical renewals around Balderton.

Passengers travelling through Newark North Gate, particularly on longer-distance services, should check the published timetable and any replacement transport arrangements before travelling.
