Nottingham traffic and travel updates: Wednesday 30 September

The main issue again this morning is Nottingham city centre, where Nottingham City Transport has made further route changes because of severe congestion around the Maid Marian Way demolition works.

There is no major fresh collision or emergency closure identified in the early checks on Nottinghamshire’s M1, A1, A46 or A52, although roadworks remain significant across the city and county.

Maid Marian Way – severe delays and further bus changes

The new contraflow around Maid Marian Way and Broad Marsh remains the most significant travel issue in Nottingham.

Roads and motorways

A52 westbound restriction in Nottingham, with the live National Highways feed showing roadworks between the A6514 and A6464 and one lane closed. The works are currently scheduled to clear at around 16:00 today.

Drivers should expect the normal increase in traffic on the A52, A453, A610 and approaches into Nottingham as the morning peak develops.

A1 – change to major resurfacing programme

The long-running overnight A1 northbound closure between Stamford and Grantham has now reached the end of that phase.

From today, Wednesday 30 September, until Friday 2 October, National Highways says lane one will be closed and the Grantham entry and exit slip roads will be closed.

The restrictions form part of the A1 resurfacing programme between Foston and Little Ponton, which continues into October.

Netherfield – Victoria Road closed

Victoria Road in Netherfield remains closed today for carriageway and utility works.

The current programme includes resurfacing between a point west of Forester Road and the A612 Colwick Loop Road junction, alongside Severn Trent work.

The closure is scheduled through today, with further works on Victoria Road planned during October.

Redhill – Mansfield Road

A more substantial scheme continues on Mansfield Road at Redhill, where the road is closed for carriageway resurfacing between the Ram Inn and Arch Hill.

The works run from 28 September until 3 October, with a signed diversion in operation.

Separate tree work to remove a snapped limb on Mansfield Road is also scheduled through today.

New today – Woodborough Road

Another new restriction begins today in Nottingham.

Two-way temporary traffic lights are being introduced on Woodborough Road between Westville Gardens and St Ann’s Hill for National Grid works.

The 24-hour signals are scheduled to remain until Saturday 3 October.

Arnold

Daytime diversions continue in Arnold town centre.

Between 09:30 and 15:30, buses do not serve the Arnold High Street stop behind ASDA.

The changes affect NCT 25, 53, 54, 55, 56 and 58, while Lime 56 towards Nottingham also misses Croft Road and Ravenswood Road.

The arrangements continue through Friday 2 October.

Nuthall Road

Phase two of the major resurfacing scheme on Nuthall Road continues tonight.

Weekday closures operate between 19:00 and 06:00 until Wednesday 14 October, affecting Yellow 71/B and Turquoise 79/B.

The 71/B towards Bulwell follows the Yellow 70/B route along Bagnall Road.

The 79/B towards Bulwell and Arnold diverts via Melbourne Road, Aspley Lane and Broxtowe Lane, while city-bound 79 services use the reverse diversion. Turquoise buses do not stop on the diversion.

Goose Fair

Goose Fair continues at Forest Recreation Ground, and NCT is warning passengers to expect delays to services passing close to the site until Sunday 4 October.

Traffic is likely to become heavier around Gregory Boulevard, Mansfield Road and Forest Recreation Ground later today as the fair becomes busier.

Trams – running today

Trams are scheduled to run to all stops today, although delays remain possible because of the continuing industrial dispute.

NET’s published arrangements confirm services to all stops on Wednesday 30 September and Thursday 1 October, but warn of possible delays because staff are taking action short of a strike.

The next full shutdown is Friday 2 October and Saturday 3 October, when there will be no tram services anywhere on the network.

The Forest stop will therefore not be available for Goose Fair visitors on those two days.

Rail

No major fresh Nottinghamshire rail incident has been identified in the early check.

There is, however, a planned late-night alteration affecting East Midlands Railway.

National Rail lists an amended 23:35 London St Pancras International to Nottingham service tonight as part of engineering work running from Monday 28 September through Thursday 1 October.

Other continuing bus disruption

Gas works on Queens Road continue to delay NCT 18/A/B, with the Salisbury Street stop towards Beeston and Stapleford closed.

Roadworks on Derby Road are also causing delays to 18, Orange 34/C, 35/A/B, 36 and hopper 903, with the Hillside stop towards Nottingham or Jubilee Campus closed.

South Notts 1 passengers are additionally being warned of severe peak-time delays because of roadworks in Loughborough

The main issue again this morning is Nottingham city centre, where Nottingham City Transport has made further route changes because of severe congestion around the Maid Marian Way demolition works. NCT says some buses have been taking around 30 minutes simply to get through the affected area, and Orange and Turquoise services are now being routed away from Maid Marian Way. There is no major fresh collision or emergency closure identified in the early checks on Nottinghamshire’s M1, A1, A46 or A52, although roadworks remain significant across the city and county.
