NTU has issued an update including supporting overseas students to return home, food parcels delivered to self-isolating students on campus and increased cleaning.
Steve Denton, NTU Chief Operating Officer and Registrar said:
‘The situation regarding coronavirus continues to develop rapidly. This is a troubling time for us all, and it’s only natural that we are concerned and want to do all we can to limit the spread of the disease.
‘We at NTU are considering the impact on our community daily. We are operating as close to business as usual as we can, consistent with Government and Public Health England advice, whilst continuing to put the safety and wellbeing of our staff and students first.
‘We have postponed all international travel, increased cleaning measures in all communal areas and are regularly reminding staff and students to follow national and official guidance. We have spoken with all staff and student members who are currently outside the UK, supporting them to return to Nottingham, get to their country of origin or to a safer place of their choosing. We are providing advice and guidance to international students who are keen to leave the UK, ensuring they understand the implications of returning home for both their visas and their studies, as well as what support we will can offer if they return home.
‘We are supporting our students through dedicated phone lines and delivering food parcels to any student self-isolating in our student halls accommodation.
‘We continue to modify and confirm our scenario plans so we are able to respond to any situation quickly and efficiently; this includes consideration of moving teaching online, extending assessment deadlines and supporting both staff and students remotely.
‘We are proud of the support NTU community shows one another, thank you to you all for your strength at this time.’
