Staff, patients and visitors at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) joined together on Friday 1 December to watch this year’s annual Christmas Light Switch on.
The lights decorate the exterior of both Nottingham City Hospital and Queen’s Medical Centre, along with a large Christmas tree located just outside the main entrance of Queen’s Medical Centre.
13-year-old Harley Johnson was the guest of honour and had the job of switching on this year’s Christmas Lights at NUH.
Harley sustained a head injury from falling from his electric scooter and has been looked after at the Children’s Hospitals for the past four months.
Harley was joined by his family for the lights switch on. Harley said: “I’ve been so excited to turning on the lights.
The nurses here are amazing – I call them ‘Harley’s Angels’! This is the first time I’ll have spent Christmas in a hospital, but I don’t mind because everyone is so kind. It’s been so special to turn the lights on with all my family.”
Head of Estates and Facilities and NUH Mike Soroka said, “Thank you to everyone who helped to organise the light switch on this year and to you all for being here to celebrate.”
The decorations have been funded by the Nottingham Hospitals Charity. Barbara Cathcart, Chief Executive of Nottingham Hospitals Charity, said: “We are delighted to once again fund the Christmas lights across Nottingham’s hospitals. Nobody wants to be in hospital at this time of year, but we’re happy that we can provide a little festive cheer and sparkle for the patients, visitors and staff at our hospitals this festive season. Thank you to everyone who has donated to help sponsor these lights.”
