Nottingham Victoria Centre: Celebration after 125 years of the clocktower

Nottingham’s Victoria Centre, is marking a major milestone this May, as its iconic Clocktower turns 125 years old and everyone’s invited to join the celebrations.

To honour this historic moment, Victoria Centre is rolling out a host of FREE, family-friendly activities to celebrate the past, present and future of Nottingham’s beloved landmark.

Kicking things off, a mini-exhibition will be unveiled on Monday 19th May, taking visitors on a visual journey through the fascinating history of the Clocktower. Located along the Clocktower wall, the display will remain in place for the rest of the year – a nostalgic nod to 125 years of ticking time.

Then, from Tuesday 28 to Thursday 30 May, the celebrations continue in South Square with a colouring station where young artists can let their creativity shine by designing their very own version of the iconic Clocktower.

The winning design will be turned into a vinyl display on the centre’s windows, proudly placed next to the real Clocktower for all to see – PLUS the winner will receive a £50 gift card of choice! Two runners-up will also receive £50 gift cards.

The fun doesn’t stop there… a social media competition will be launching on Friday 24th May, the Clocktower’s official 125th birthday, with one lucky winner bagging a £125 gift card for a Victoria Centre retailer of their choice. To win, entrants simply need to share their favourite Victoria Centre memory.

Nigel Wheatley, Centre Director at Victoria Centre commented: “Celebrating 125 years of the Clocktower is a momentous occasion, not just for Victoria Centre, but for the whole of Nottingham.

“The clocktower is a symbol of the city’s heritage and we’re proud to honour its legacy with activities that invite everyone to take part, reflect on their own memories, and create new ones together.”
