Nottinghamshire brewery plans to double its size as plans submitted for tap room

An independent Nottinghamshire brewery is looking to expand its site.

Blue Monkey Brewing submitted the plans to Broxtowe Borough Council today (April 4).

Blue Monkey, based at Giltbrook Industrial Parkin, Pentrich Road, near Eastwood, is know for beer including as pale ales, stouts, dark ruby ales and black IPAs.

It was founded in 2008 and initially brewed at a 10-barrel plant in Ilkeston before moving to Giltbrook in 2010.

The owners have now applied to expand the site, doubling its size, into the unit next door which was previously occupied by Music Gear Direct.

The expansion would allow the brewing and storage area on the ground floor to be extended with a part of the unit becoming a ‘tap room’ and shop.

Planning papers say: “This will clearly allow for more beer to be produced and sold, a greater recognition of the brand, and more local and national pub premises to benefit from selling Blue Monkey Beer.”

The brewery currently has 11 full-time staff, with three new full-time and two new part-time staff members expected to be employed if the expansion plans are approved.

Papers say a separate application has already been submitted to obtain a licence to sell alcohol in the extension.

The brewery is currently open from 8.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday and between 10am to 4pm on Saturdays.

The shop is open from Monday to Saturday during the same hours.

It is planned that the tap room, which will also include the shop, will open from Wednesday to Sunday from 3pm to 10pm. The application will be decided by the council at a later date.
