Nottinghamshire Police officers have helped to put on an at-home Zumba class for the community.
Officers in Broxtowe lent a hand – and a vehicle – so that a community group could broadcast an outdoor Zumba class through a police car’s loudspeaker today (Friday 3 April).
Evolve – which runs free community groups in the area – took its usual Zumba class to the streets with the help of the Broxtowe Neighbourhood Team.
Residents were invited to go out into their front gardens or simply open a window to take part in the exercise class, which was run by a qualified instructor.
Nottinghamshire Police’s Neighbourhood Policing Inspector for Broxtowe, Gordon Fenwick, said: “We wanted to support this event as it really ties into our main priority at the moment, which is to encourage people to stay at home and save lives.
“The people of Broxtowe have responded fantastically to these new restrictions and we want to do what we can to support them.
“We know that following these guidelines is tough for people, especially for anyone who lives alone. I hope that seeing us out helping with the Zumba gave people a boost and helped them to see that we’re all in this together.
“I’d like to take this opportunity again to thank the community for their support and for following the government’s guidelines. Where we can do things like this to support you to stay at home, we will.”
Evolve Director, Gary Bulmer, said: “We work with Charm and her Zumba classes have been an amazing hit in the community. We wanted to carry this on, so we decided to bring Charm and her Zumba to them. We approached the local police to help and they have been amazing.
“We can get people active, put a smile on their faces while staying safe and promoting the importance of social distancing. It is so important to think about people’s physical and mental wellbeing at times like these.”
The Zumba tour of Broxtowe started in Westleigh Road, taking in the top end of Frinton Road and Whitwell Road before visiting Alwyn Road, Fenwick Close and Whitwell Close.
