Organisers made the announcement today.
They said in a statement:
‘It is with bitter disappointment that we are announcing the cancellation of the Nottinghamshire County Show which was to be held on Saturday, 8th May 2021.
‘The difficult decision has been taken following the release of the Government’s Covid 19 Spring Response and Road Map where clarity has been received on the re-opening of the country from lockdown.
‘Despite all the encouraging signs of recovery and the roll out of vaccine programme, the timings are very fluid and unfortunately the County Show date falls within Steps 2 and 3 meaning the show would not be practical or permissible at this stage within the Road Map.
‘The Nottinghamshire County Show at Newark Showground is a highlight in the Society’s events calendar, and this is incredibly disappointing, not only for the team who have been working so hard to plan the 2021 Show with a changed one-day format focusing on livestock and equine competitions, but for all our valued participants, volunteers, exhibitors, sponsors and partners who make the show the success it is.’
“We know this will be very sad and disappointing news for all involved especially as we have had to cancel for a second year in a row. However, we must play our part in following guidance from the Government to safely re-open the country and help aid the recovery from the pandemic” states Richard Sheldon, Chairman of the County Show Committee. “We look to the future with optimism and confidence at bringing the Show back in 2022 focusing on its agricultural roots and truly representing the essence of the local rural community.”
“The NNAS remains committed to supporting the agricultural community in Nottinghamshire and beyond and we will continue our work through Shows, learning opportunities and award schemes to recognise and support the hard work and outstanding contribution to agriculture in Nottinghamshire and the wider farming community” says Roger Jackson, Chairman of the Society.
The NNAS still plans to hold its annual Midlands Machinery Show (9-10th November) and Newark Vintage Tractor and Heritage Show (13-14th November) at the Showground.
