Nottinghamshire County Council will once again be supporting the team that runs the annual Nottinghamshire County Show held on 11 May at Newark Showground.
After the success of last year’s event, council services and community partners will fill the George Stephenson Exhibition Hall to create a vibrant Community Zone with lots of interactive activities for all the family.
This year, the team is looking for some willing volunteers to help welcome the thousands of visitors, and local and regional businesses expected for this showcase of livestock, horses, countryside competitions, local food producers, and craft stalls.
Councillor Scott Carlton, Cabinet Member for Communities and Public Health, at Nottinghamshire County Council explains: “We’d really like a team of people to help us tell our visitors about the wide range of activities on offer, to demonstrate activities, and to get people as excited about the event as we are.
“I’m confident that the support of willing volunteers can ensure all our visitors will have a great day and take away a lot of information on the many services and community support groups across our county.
“Whether you want a bit of event experience, to learn a bit more about the county, or to meet some new and interesting people – volunteering is a great way to do it.”
As a volunteer in the George Stephenson Building Community Zone, you could be involved with stage managing the amazing programme of musical and dance performance on the Community Zone Stage or you could be helping people see how their tennis skills match up alongside the team at Newark Tennis Club on the giant inflatable.
Help the flood awareness team showcase their flooding simulator sandbox to see how places are affected by the flow of water into rivers and wetlands, or maybe learn about road safety and support small children to ride bikes with the Bikeability team. Learn how to enjoy the countryside with highways teams from Via. You could even sit on a gritter!
If you are interested in supporting the Community Zone, we’d like to hear from individuals aged 16+ or if you are a family that would like to volunteer together for the day, we’d love to have you on board. There may be opportunities for individuals over 18 to volunteer on the rest of the show and we can pass your details to the Newark Showground team.
There is lots more information and details of how to put your name forward at the Newark & Sherwood CVS and Rushcliffe CVS volunteer website
