An off-duty Nottinghamshire police constable would have been dismissed had he not resigned after using discriminatory language when reporting an incident.
Former PC Joseph Stacey faced an accelerated gross misconduct hearing at Force HQ at Sherwood Lodge on Monday 15 December.
The hearing was open to both the press and the public.
The hearing heard that the former PC joined Nottinghamshire Police in March 2022.
In October this year, he made a call to the police control room while off duty to alert them about the concerns he had for a woman’s safety.
He told control room staff the woman was being stared at by a group of men.
He then used language, which was inappropriate, offensive and discriminatory. His behaviour was immediately reported.
The hearing heard that he breached the following standards of professional behaviour – equality and diversity, authority, respect and courtesy, and discreditable conduct.
Temporary Chief Constable Steve Cooper, who was chairing the hearing, said:
“The officer was clearly aware that he was acting in a manner which was discriminatory and would undoubtedly lead to the public being unable to have trust and confidence in him.
“There is absolutely no place for this behaviour within our police service and therefore it was vitally important he was removed from his duties.”
