As the chancellor outlined the budget today for the upcoming year, one of the major headlines of importance for Nottinghamshire was the announcement that East Midlands Airport has been chosen as one of eight regional sites at which a ‘Freeport’ would be developed.
Councillor Alan Rhodes, Leader of the Labour Group at Nottinghamshire County Council said:
“We cautiously welcome the news that East Midlands Airport, which is in Nottinghamshire, has been identified as a location, although we recognise that this is not without potential issues.
“Nonetheless it is something that Nottinghamshire County Council Labour Group has supported. Nottinghamshire and the whole of the East Midlands needs a boost to its economy post-COVID, and we hope that the Freeport will bring new jobs and much needed investment and business to Nottinghamshire and the rest of the East Midlands”
