Nottinghamshire Police marks Armed Forces Week

Civic dignitaries joined serving soldiers, veterans, police officers and staff as they marked the end of Armed Forces Week in style.

Dozens of guests gathered at Joint Headquarters, Sherwood Lodge, Nottingham on Friday (28 June) to attend the annual Big Brew event hosted by members of the Nottinghamshire Police Armed Forces Network.

The event, held two days before National Armed Forces Day, celebrated the enduring links between the armed services and policing, and gave guests a valuable insight into the lives of serving soldiers and officers.

Guests including Lord-Lieutenant for Nottinghamshire Veronica Pickering were welcomed with a rousing performance from the Nottighamshire Police brass band, and also had the opportunity to examine historic vehicles from the Military Vehicles Trust.

Event organiser PCSO Steve Timperley, a veteran who spent more than 20 years with the British Army, said:

“The police service and the military have a lot in common and we’re fortunate as an organisation to benefit from the skills and experience of so many former veterans.

“This event is a great way to celebrate and build upon this relationship in a fun and relaxed environment.

“I was delighted to see so many people enjoying Friday’s event and would like to thank the players of the Nottinghamshire Police Band for providing such a brilliant soundtrack to the event.

“I’d also like to thank the members of the Military Vehicle Trust who attended with their very valuable hardware, and our friends from the Mercian regiment for being so generous with their time.”
