The Government has announced the first wave of police recruitment targets as part of a three-year programme to recruit 20,000 new police officers across the country.

Nottinghamshire Police will immediately be able to recruit an extra 107 officers, with 89 for Leicestershire, 85 for Derbyshire, 57 for Northamptonshire and 50 for Lincolnshire.

That means an extra 388 officers across the East Midlands region.

Mansfield MP Ben Bradley said:

“An additional 107 Police Officers for Nottinghamshire is a huge boost, and one that is much needed to help keep local communities and our streets safe. The vast majority of people are hardworking, honest and law-abiding, and they expect to feel safe at home, on the streets and in our town centres.

“This is the most common issue that crosses my desk as Mansfield’s MP, and Government is listening to their priorities. It is just the start of action being taken to crack down on crime and make our streets safer.

“We’re equipping police officers with the powers and resources they need to protect themselves and others from harm, with back room support for their wellbeing and with new taser equipment where it’s necessary to protect both officers and residents.

“This sends a clear message to criminals that we’re not messing about. We’ll back our police, and we’ll protect our communities.’’
