Nottinghamshire traffic and travel update: Thursday 17 September

The main issues today are planned works. It is the final scheduled day of the A52 Derby Road lane restriction near QMC and the daytime Bramcote Lane closure, while another major overnight closure takes place on A60 Mansfield Road tonight.

There is also a new daytime bus diversion in West Bridgford.

Roads and motorways

No major new incident causing widespread disruption has been identified on Nottinghamshire’s principal strategic routes in the early check.

There were overnight National Highways works on the A1 northbound, including closures around the B6325/B1164 area south of Newark, but these were scheduled to finish at 06:00 this morning.

Drivers should expect the usual increase in traffic on the approaches to Nottingham as the morning peak develops, particularly on the A52, A453, A610 and Clifton Boulevard.

A52 Derby Road – final scheduled day

The lane restriction on the A52 Derby Road between University North Entrance and QMC remains in place today.

National Highways has closed an eastbound lane between University North Entrance bus stop and QMC roundabout while a new pedestrian guardrail is installed.

The restriction began on Monday and is scheduled to end at 20:00 tonight, Thursday 17 September.

The University North Entrance bus stop towards Nottingham is also closed during the works, affecting NCT Orange 35 and 36.

A52 Wheatcroft

The separate major works at Wheatcroft junction in West Bridgford continue.

Utility diversion work began earlier this month ahead of reconstruction of Wheatcroft and Nottingham Knight junctions, with lane restrictions and a temporary 40mph limit introduced around Wheatcroft. The utility phase is expected to continue for around three months.

Rail – strike remains suspended

The RMT strike that had originally been scheduled to affect East Midlands Railway today has been suspended.

National Rail says EMR Intercity and Connect services are expected to run as scheduled today, Thursday 17 September.

There are, however, planned late-night and early-morning engineering alterations in the Derby area and on EMR services to and from London St Pancras as part of a programme running until Friday morning.

Passengers should continue checking individual journeys before travelling.

New today – Boundary Road, West Bridgford

A new closure affects buses in West Bridgford today.

Severn Trent is working on Boundary Road between 09:30 and 15:30, with Green 8 towards Wilford Hill diverted.

Buses will run via Eton Road, A60 Loughborough Road and Boundary Road before returning along Musters Road.

Stops at Sherborne Road, Malvern Road and Ellesmere Road are affected.

Bramcote Lane – final day

Today is the scheduled final day of the weekday closure of Bramcote Lane.

Between 09:30 and 17:00, NCT 18A and Pink 30 divert via Wollaton Vale and Trowell Road.

The closure has been operating on weekdays since the beginning of September.

Kegworth – final scheduled day

Station Road in Kegworth also remains closed because of roadworks today.

University hopper 901 is taking an alternative route between Sutton Bonington Campus and Kegworth Market Place, with Anchor Inn and Mill Lane stops not served.

The current closure is listed through today, 17 September.

Beeston Road – final overnight closure tonight

The overnight works on Beeston Road and part of University Boulevard reach their final scheduled night tonight.

Between 19:00 tonight and 06:00 Friday, NCT 18, Orange 34C and hopper 901 will again be diverted.

Service 18 uses the A52 and Priory Island, while 34C and 901 leave University Park via Keighton Hill, Cut Through Lane and North Entrance.

The works have also been affecting trentbarton indigo and skylink Nottingham services around QMC, Dunkirk and the university area.

Mansfield Road – another major closure tonight

The inbound A60 Mansfield Road between Goose Fair Island and Mapperley Road/Forest Road East is scheduled to be open for the daytime following last night’s works.

It closes again between 20:00 tonight and 06:00 Friday for resurfacing.

The weeknight programme continues until the morning of Friday 25 September, although there will be no works on Saturday 19 or Sunday 20 September.

All NCT Brown, Lime, Yellow and Purple Line buses towards Nottingham divert during the closure via Gregory Boulevard, Alfreton Road and Canning Circus.

Affected inbound stops include Forest Recreation Ground, Forest Road, Huntingdon Street, Woodborough Road, Victoria Centre J1 and South Sherwood Street G3.

Maid Marian Way – Broad Marsh

Traffic management remains in place around Maid Marian Way for demolition of the former Broad Marsh NCP car park and Nottingham College building.

NCT says buses are not currently expected to divert, but lane restrictions and temporary traffic lights are causing delays. The arrangements are expected to remain until the end of November.

trentbarton is also warning of delays in the area, with the next significant phase – including a contraflow – currently expected to begin on 28 September.

Victoria Centre and Queens Road

Pink 28 and 30 remain temporarily relocated from their normal Victoria Centre stops to Burton Street alongside The Cornerhouse because of works on Milton Street.

There are also continuing delays to NCT 18, 18A and 18B on Queens Road because of gas works, with the Salisbury Street stop towards Beeston and Stapleford closed.

East Bridgford and Lowdham

The major A614/A6097 improvement programme continues, including the long-term works at Kirk Hill, East Bridgford, and Lowdham Roundabout.

Nottinghamshire County Council’s wider September highways programme also includes 24 major resurfacing and machine-lay patching schemes, alongside surface dressing and micro-asphalt works at more than 200 locations.
