Nottinghamshire traffic and travel updates: Monday 10 August

Motorists and public transport passengers are being advised to check their journeys as the Monday morning commute gets under way across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

Nottingham City Transport | 2:08 pm

Due to an incident on Hucknall Road, near to the Arnold Road junction, Brown 17 are diverting towards the City.

The stops named Gorse Court and Riber Crescent cannot be served. Please use Kersall Drive or Arnold Road named stops.

Alternately, use Brown 16, or the diverted 17 on Andover Road.

The A42 has now reopened following Sunday’s serious collision, while tram passengers should be aware that NET has announced several individual service cancellations this morning despite the end of its two-week engineering works.

This page will be updated throughout Monday 10 August as new incidents and delays are reported.

06:15 – Several morning tram services cancelled

Nottingham Express Transit has announced several individual tram cancellations this morning, potentially affecting passengers during the early commute.

The cancellations were announced by NET shortly after 06:00 on Monday.

Cancelled services:

07:15, 09:00 from Hucknall

07:53, 08:23 from Toton

07:48, 08:33, 09:30 from Phoenix

07:37, 08:37, 09:22 from Clifton

This comes on the first morning of normal through running following major engineering works between Wilkinson Street and The Forest.

The two-week closure ran from Sunday 26 July until Sunday 9 August while track was replaced around Wilkinson Street and Noel Street. NET had scheduled normal services to resume from Monday 10 August.

Passengers travelling this morning are therefore advised to check individual services rather than assuming the full scheduled timetable is operating.

06:00 – A42 reopens after serious collision

The A42 has reopened between Junction 13 at Ashby-de-la-Zouch and the M1 at Junction 23A following the serious multi-vehicle collision on Sunday.

The road had remained closed into the early hours while police collision investigation work was completed.

The incident happened shortly before 15:00 on Sunday 9 August on the northbound carriageway. Emergency services attended and the route was subsequently closed in both directions.

Both carriageways were open again by around 06:00 on Monday morning.

This removes what had been the most significant overnight disruption for motorists travelling between Nottinghamshire, East Midlands Airport and the Ashby area.

M1, A52, A46 and A1

There are currently no major new incidents identified on the M1 through Nottinghamshire, the A52 around Nottingham, the A46 or the A1 through the county in the early-morning check.

Traffic is expected to become busier as the Monday morning peak develops.

Planned overnight work continues on the A1 between Foston and Little Ponton. The A1 northbound between Harlaxton and Barrowby is subject to weeknight closures until Friday 14 August, generally between 20:00 and 06:00.

Nuthall Road closure begins today

Drivers and bus passengers should also be aware of works beginning on Nuthall Road today.

The closure affects NCT Turquoise 78 and 79 services, with diversions in place while works are carried out.

Passengers should allow additional time for journeys through the area.

A60 Loughborough Road overnight closure

Resurfacing work also begins on the A60 Loughborough Road between Nottingham Knight and Ruddington tonight.

The works are scheduled between 20:00 and 06:00 from Monday 10 August to Friday 14 August, and again on Monday 17 August.

NCT Green 10 buses will be diverted during the closures. Services towards Nottingham will divert from Ruddington via High Street, Wilford Road, Landmere Lane and Europa Way before returning to Loughborough Road.

Other bus disruption

A number of other road closures and works continue to affect bus routes across Nottinghamshire this week.

These include works around Bramcote Lane, Gedling Road in Arnold, London Road in Newark and Cockington Road in Bilborough.

Passengers are advised to check their operator before travelling, particularly where services are running through roadwork areas.

Tram engineering works finished – but check cancellations

The major tram engineering blockade between Wilkinson Street and The Forest has finished, meaning through services are able to operate again today.

NET carried out track replacement work around Wilkinson Street and Noel Street between 26 July and 9 August, with replacement buses operating while the tram line was closed. Normal service was scheduled to resume on Monday 10 August.

However, several individual morning tram workings have been cancelled today, so passengers should check NET’s live updates before travelling.

The Station Street lift at Nottingham Station also remains out of use until 14 August, although alternative accessible lifts are available through the railway station and Nottingham Station car park.

Rail services

No major new disruption affecting Nottingham station has been identified in the initial morning check.

Passengers should nevertheless check their individual service before travelling as the morning timetable develops.
