Nottinghamshire traffic and travel updates: Monday 21 September

There are several significant new planned restrictions starting today, including a closure at A52 Wheatcroft, drainage works in Ruddington, and a major five-night closure of the A6097 at East Bridgford beginning this evening.

Roads and motorways

Drivers should expect the usual increase in traffic on the A52, A453, A610 and approaches into Nottingham as the morning peak develops.

A52 Wheatcroft – new closure from 08:00 today

A significant new restriction begins at Wheatcroft junction this morning.

From 08:00 today until 18:00 on Friday 25 September, a section of Flawforth Lane where it meets the A52 at Wheatcroft will be completely closed.

The closure forms part of utility diversion works ahead of the major reconstruction of Wheatcroft junction. Lane restrictions and the temporary 40mph limit on the A52 also continue.

The closure is likely to put additional traffic onto surrounding routes, particularly the A60 through Ruddington.

Further disruption follows this weekend: part of the A52 Gamston Link Road at Wheatcroft is scheduled to close overnight between 20:00 and 06:00 from Friday 25 to Monday 28 September.

East Bridgford – A6097 closes tonight

One of the week’s biggest Nottinghamshire road closures begins this evening.

The A6097 between Gunthorpe Bridge and the A46 will close overnight for five consecutive nights, beginning tonight and continuing until the morning of Saturday 26 September.

Nottinghamshire County Council says vegetation and trees are being cleared between Kirk Hill junction and the A46 roundabout as part of the A614/A6097 improvement programme.

Traffic will be diverted via the A46, A617, A614 and A6097.

The existing long-term closures of Kirk Hill and East Bridgford Road also remain in place as construction of the junction continues.

Engineering work between Derby and Matlock/Sheffield means some late-night and early-morning services are altered from today through Friday 25 September.

Tonight, the 22:30 Sheffield to Derby will arrive at Derby later than usual, at 00:34.

From tonight through Friday, the 22:32 London St Pancras to Sheffield will terminate at Derby, with a replacement bus operating between Derby, Chesterfield and Sheffield.

From Tuesday morning, the 05:21 Derby to Nottingham leaves Derby at 05:19, running two minutes earlier as far as Attenborough.

Mansfield Road – overnight closure resumes tonight

After a weekend break, the major resurfacing programme on A60 Mansfield Road resumes tonight.

The inbound road between Goose Fair Island and Forest Road closes between 20:00 tonight and 06:00 Tuesday.

The weeknight closures continue through Thursday night, 24 September.

All NCT Brown, Lime, Yellow and Purple Line buses towards the city divert from Goose Fair Island via Gregory Boulevard, Alfreton Road, Canning Circus and Talbot Street.

Buses do not stop on the diversion until reaching South Sherwood Street. Outbound services continue through the works but may encounter lane restrictions.

Maid Marian Way – Broad Marsh

Traffic management remains in place around Maid Marian Way for demolition of the former Broad Marsh NCP car park and Nottingham College building.

NCT says it does not currently anticipate diverting services, but lane restrictions and temporary traffic signals are causing delays.

The current arrangements continue until the end of November.

A further significant phase is expected from 28 September, when a contraflow is due to be introduced.

Sawley – overnight works begin tonight

A new programme of overnight works begins on Tamworth Road at Sawley tonight.

The road is scheduled to close on weekday nights between 20:00 and 06:00 from Monday 21 September until Saturday 3 October.
