The weather forecast for Thursday 18 December in Nottinghamshire.
Early morning
Wednesday will begin dry and largely overcast across the area. From around 6am through the morning commute, cloud cover will dominate with only a very small chance of any rainfall. Temperatures will sit around 7 to 9°C, feeling slightly cooler at times due to a light southerly to south-south-westerly breeze. Winds will generally remain modest early on, but exposed areas may notice occasional gusts approaching 15–20mph.
Midday
Conditions are set to turn more unsettled from late morning into midday. Cloud will thicken and the risk of rain will increase steadily, with showers becoming increasingly likely by around 11am and early afternoon. Rainfall probabilities rise sharply during this period, and some spells of rain are expected to become persistent rather than showery. Temperatures will edge up slightly to around 9 or 10°C. Winds will begin to freshen from the south-east, becoming more noticeable, particularly in open locations.
Afternoon
The afternoon looks to be the wettest part of the day. From around noon through to mid-afternoon, rain is expected to be widespread and at times heavy, with the likelihood of rainfall very high for several hours. Temperatures will peak at around 10 to 11°C, but persistent rain and strengthening winds will make it feel cooler. South-easterly winds will increase, with gusts potentially reaching 30 to 40mph at times, especially later in the afternoon, leading to blustery conditions and some surface water on roads.
Evening
Rain will begin to ease gradually later in the afternoon and into the evening, although occasional showers may linger into the early evening hours. Cloud will remain extensive, but drier conditions are expected to develop as the night progresses. Temperatures will slowly fall from around 12°C at 5pm to nearer 8 or 9°C by late evening. Winds will veer towards the south-west and remain breezy early in the evening, with gusts still possible, before easing later overnight.
