Notts Black Police Association collects donations with Reverse Advent Calendar

This year, the Nottinghamshire Police Black Police Association has been collecting donations for a ‘Reverse Advent Calendar.’

General Secretary of the staff support network, Abid Hussain, was inspired to take part after seeing a YouTube blogger talking about the idea, which asks you to donate something every day, rather than opening a door on your calendar.

Abid and his family decided to do their own Reverse Advent Calendar and he also set up a donation point for the force.

I wasn’t surprised by the amount that was donated, as I already knew I worked with some incredibly empathetic and generous people

Although Advent runs right up to Christmas, Abid wanted to make sure those less fortunate had received the donations before the big day and took around 100 items to the Himmah Institute on Sunday 9 December.

However, he’s not finished yet! The force are continuing to collect donations and Abid will be making at least one more delivery to a local charity before the big day.

Abid said: “I wasn’t surprised by the amount that was donated, as I already knew I worked with some incredibly empathetic and generous people, but I did feel honoured to be able to present the Reverse Advent Calendar to the Himmah Institute.

For some people, even having access to toothpaste and toilet roll isn’t guaranteed and I’m pleased we could help

“So far, we’ve collected everything from food and clothes to children’s toys and basic toiletries – I hope this small gesture can help make Christmas that little bit merrier for those going through a difficult time.

“The Reverse Advent Calendar is a great idea because, let’s be honest, we don’t need a piece of chocolate, but for some people, even having access to toothpaste and toilet roll isn’t guaranteed and I’m pleased we could help.”
