Notts man charged with attempted murder after woman suffered neck injury

A man is due to appear in court charged with attempted murder after a woman was assaulted and suffered a severe injury to her neck.

Police were called to the alleged knife attack, which happened inside a home in Hartley Road, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, just before 2.30pm on Wednesday (16 June 2021).

Officers gave first-aid to the 41-year-old victim who was taken to hospital. The air ambulance was also called to the incident.

The woman needed emergency surgery and she is currently in a stable condition in hospital.

Police quickly responded to the report arresting the suspect nearby.

Ian Hemsworth, 61, of Hartley Road, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, is set to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court today (Friday 18 June 2021).

Detective Inspector Gareth Harding, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “While this was a contained and isolated incident we are continuing to treat it extremely seriously.

“We have now secured a charge as a result of our investigation and our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“I’d like to reassure people that Nottinghamshire Police treats all reports of knife crime with the utmost importance.

“It is a key priority for the force and we are continuing to work tirelessly, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with our partners and local communities, to drive down knife crime even further, to remove dangerous weapons off our streets and take robust action against anyone believed to be involved in violent crime.”
