NSPCC West Bridgford Summer Fayre this weekend

A West Bridgford NSPCC group is to host a Summer Fayre for Childhood Day.

Childhood Day, on 10 June, is the NSPCC’s flagship day where families, friends and colleagues celebrate the importance of childhood by organising events to raise funds to the charity keep children safe.

Taking place at the Tiny Talkers Nursery garden in West Bridgford, the fayre will be open to members of the public the day after Childhood Day on Saturday 11 June. Visitors will be required to make a small donation at the door before enjoying classic games such as splat the rat, a coconut shy, tombola, face painting and a raffle.

Refreshments will also be provided including tea, coffee, cake and strawberries.

Richard Akers, Tiny Talkers Nursery Deputy Manager and NSPCC Champion, said:

“Our Childhood Day Fayre is open to everyone and anyone. So, please come along and bring your friends and family, play games, have fun, create new happy memories and help us protect children.

“The money raised will go  to the NSPCC, which relies on public donations for the majority of its funding, this could help fund the training for Childline counsellors something our director Sarah Bond is currently undertaking.

“As a nursery, we are dedicated to children and our local community, and it means a lot to us to help promote child protection and safeguarding this Childhood Day.”

Barbara Elsey, Community Fundraising Manager for Nottinghamshire, said: “Richard, Sarah and everyone at NSPCC West Bridgford are all absolutely brilliant. They very much represent the heart of their local community, and our values at the NSPCC. By organising this great summer fayre, they are showing that fundraising can be about doing fun things that people enjoy, which is what Childhood Day is all about.

“Last year, the NSPCC Helpline made 4,574 referrals to agencies in the Midlands about child abuse and neglect concerns; an average of almost 13 referrals a day. With the support of local people here in Nottingham, we can take action against child abuse, and raise funds to ensure young people always have someone to turn to.

“So, come along to the West Bridgford summer fayre to play your part this Childhood Day.”
