NUAST secures ‘Outstanding’ Sixth Form rating in recent Ofsted inspection

One of the city’s most oversubscribed schools are celebrating after receiving an Ofsted rating of Outstanding yet again for their Sixth Form provision.

Nottingham University Academy of Science and Technology (NUAST), part of Nova Education Trust, achieved an Ofsted Good rating, with the sixth form graded Outstanding, for their first inspection under the new Ofsted Education Inspection Framework (EIF).

Ofsted recognised that whilst pupils appreciate the distinctiveness of the school with its strong focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics that leaders have also developed an ambitious curriculum, with pupils provided with a range of subjects, including Spanish, Music and Art.

Pupils say they feel safe at the school, that relationships with staff are positive and supportive, and that they know teachers want them to be successful. Leaders provide a careers programme that enables pupils to explore the choices available to them for their next steps.

Pupils are well prepared for life in modern Britain.

Ofsted found that in the Outstanding Sixth Form the students benefit from an exceptional provision, with a parent telling Ofsted:

“All credit to the remarkable teaching staff and the school as a whole for providing such a strong foundation of education and discipline.”

Ofsted noted that: “Sixth Form students benefit from a range of enriching opportunities.

“Many volunteer in the community and local hospital.”

Ofsted said trustees and governors bring a strong level of challenge and support to the leadership of the school. They are ambitious for all pupils. They are mindful of staffs’ welfare and well-being. Staff are proud to work at this school.

Inspectors also recognised that NUAST is a school where pupils feel safe, and relationships with staff are positive and supportive. Ofsted quoted a pupil who had told them that “pupils feel safe and have lots of wonderful staff to help them out.”

Bob White, Head Teacher, said: “I am incredibly proud of NUAST and the latest judgement from Ofsted. The recognition given by the Ofsted inspection team of the incredible efforts of our teaching staff, support staff, students, governors and the wider trust to create a successful school in the heart of the city of Nottingham is very pleasing..”

Ash Rahman, Nova Edcation Trust CEO, added: “We are delighted that the school has received the continued recognition that it deserves. NUAST provides a unique environment for learners where they are inspired, developed and motivated to achieve.”

“The school benefits enormously from its close relationship to the University of Nottingham and other key industry partners.

“I am extremely proud of the whole organisation, and all our colleagues for their continued hard work during what has been a challenging period for all.”

“We now look to the future as we further develop our vision to create truly transformational education for the young people and the communities we serve.
