Nottingham University Hospitals Trust staff along with NHS England met with Donna Ockenden today to discuss early findings from the maternity review.
A spokesperson said:
‘Today we met with Donna Ockenden and colleagues from NHS England
‘The meeting was to hear early feedback and learning from the work of the Ockenden Review to date.
‘Donna provided very helpful feedback about where communication with women and families, written and spoken, should have been better.
‘This formal meeting means that the Ockenden Review team ensures that learning from our work and what families tell us will quickly get introduced into clinical practice.
‘I hope this assures local women & families that change will happen now, there won’t be a delay until we complete!’
‘Crucial to these improvements is ensuring that staff and family voices are heard.
‘We are encouraging people who have significant or serious concerns about their maternity care and current or former staff to contact the review team and share their experiences.’
‘We know this is an unsettling time for people using our maternity services. Women and families can be confident that those responsible for their care are committed to providing the safest and best experience possible.’
Donna Ockenden is leading the independent review into maternity failings at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH), which runs both the Queen’s Medical Centre and City Hospital.
Michelle Rhodes, Chief Nurse at NUH, added: “We are committed to making the necessary and sustainable improvements to provide the best possible care for women and families who use our maternity services.
“This is why we will continue to do all we can to support the work of Donna Ockenden’s independent review.
“This commitment includes ensuring that family voices are heard and we are encouraging people who have significant or serious concerns about their maternity care, to contact the review team.
“We are also encouraging current and former staff who work directly in or closely with our maternity services, to come forward and engage with the review.
“We know that this is an unsettling time for women and families using our maternity services. If you have any concerns about your care or have further questions, we encourage you to speak to your midwife or consultant.”
