A man has been charged with theft following an arrest by an off-duty police officer.
PC Louise Roberts was walking her eight-month-old Spaniel when she spotted a man carrying brake shoes and a metal detector on Tuesday morning (6 December).
She suspected he had removed the brake shoes from a nearby disused railway track – property of Network Rail.
PC Roberts, who has clocked up almost 23 years’ of service at Nottinghamshire Police, identified herself as a police officer and arrested the man.
She then contacted her police colleagues and the suspect was taken into custody.
Later that day, Andrzej Markow, of Deerleap, Bretton, Peterborough, was charged with theft, going equipped for theft and trespassing on railway property.
The 32-year-old was bailed and is due to appear at Boston Magistrates’ Court on 21 December 2022.
Inspector Dave Booler, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “PC Roberts deserves tremendous credit for arresting this suspect while off duty.
“As was demonstrated in this case, police officers may be off-duty but they are always ready to spring into action if and when they need to.”
