Decathlon has today reopened its Nottingham store with the support of local Great Britain Olympians, Becky and Ellie Downie.
The Downie sisters wowed opening day crowds with some artistic gymnastic moves before performing a special ribbon-cutting ceremony to welcome customers.
The timely opening comes ahead of a bumper summer of sport across football, tennis and the Olympics – with Nottingham born Becky Downie hopeful to make the team to compete on the world’s biggest sporting stage.
Celebrations at the Nottingham store will span from the opening day to across the weekend with a variety of unmissable offers and thrilling sporting activities. For example, the first 70 customers into the store today were gifted £70 vouchers to spend on any sports gear they desire.
Customers can enjoy a three-day opening weekend (Saturday 25th to Monday 27th May) packed with free fun activities including a climbing wall installed outside, a crazy golf course, archery set-up to test your aim, a range of fitness classes tailored to all levels and abilities and football coaching and dynamic speed cage testing.
Decathlon’s Nottingham store has received a full revamp, with a complete update to the storefront and design, new tills, welcome desks to provide a better shopping experience and specialised displays to showcase the wide variety of sports housed under one roof.
The revamp forms part of Decathlon’s ambition to showcase the wonder of sport. New services including circularity hubs dedicated to repairing worn products, second-life products and renting services will be rolled out across the country to help break down barriers into sport and make sport accessible for all.
Olympic gymnasts, Becky Downie MBE and Ellie Downie MBE, said: “We are thrilled to be able to open the new Decathlon store and see how it is a hub of a wide variety of sports gear with something for everyone.
“Sport has always been a vital part of our lives and we believe it plays a crucial role in bringing communities together and inspiring individuals to achieve their goals. Being local to the area, we understand how much the people love being active and this store will definitely provide the equipment and expertise needed to get everyone moving.”
Billy Mehmet, Store Manager of Decathlon, Nottingham, comments: “It has been great watching the renovation of the store and Decathlon’s new vision come to life over the past few weeks, and we are proud that Nottingham has been chosen as one of the first global stores to take on this transformation.
“When customers walk into the new store they will be greeted by a world of possibilities, and we hope they feel inspired to get stuck into the wonders of sport.”
